I have practised as a solicitor in regional New South Wales since 1966. I have a substantial degree of contact with rural producers and property owners. I live on a small vealer-rearing farm and operate it on a part time basis. Since 1966 I have regularly advised farmers on a range of matters and have acted for them in relation to transfer of farm property and been involved in the implementation of rural finance, advising as to statutory obligations of rural land owners and as to succession to farming properties. My experience in rural finance and financial management has related to finance applications for property transfers and dealings with banks and financial institutions in regard to farmer clients.
I also have considerable experience in relation to business insolvency and arrangements with creditors.
My involvement in a farming community has given me an appreciation of the difficulties and vagaries caused
to farmers by seasonal conditions and climactic patterns.
